Our History
House of Smoke began back in 1973 by Gordon Barsness and his family. The family found their way to the small town of Fort Lupton, CO from the rural surroundings of Iowa. Raising turkeys in Iowa was challenging work but provided the perfect progression to the next business in their lives. In 1973 was when they purchased their first smoker and began smoking turkeys and chickens. Word got around and the Barsness family started taking requests to smoke other products for the locals to sell. Wild game jerky became their next venture and soon expanded to other flavors including buffalo, elk, and venison. The oldest son Jim took over the reins in 1981 (and is still here) and quickly began to expand the offerings to all kinds of wild game. The meats could be purchased raw or in the form of specialty sausages.
Today House of Smoke sits in the same original building but has tripled in size and more smokers have been added. With over three hundred items to choose from now, House of Smoke ships coast to coast and even has customers in Alaska. One can find House of Smoke items on many menus of restaurants, caterers, hotels, food trucks, hot dog stands and yes even at state fairs. Everybody can now take advantage and order these terrific products from anywhere in the USA. From buffalo, elk, venison, poultry, wild boar, smoked turkeys, pheasant, and ducks to thirty varieties of wild game specialty sausages, the next feast or BBQ could be the best. If cooking at home is not the thing and, in the area, stop by House of Smoke’s deli for a terrific sandwich. Lastly, do not forget the dog either, as House of Smoke makes Naturally Wild Pet Treats as well. Thank you from all of us here at House of Smoke for your continued support.
